The Show Episode 1: Start Your Day With The Habits You Need To Be Successful
“Successful people are simply those with successful habits.”
Brian Tracy
I say - Extraordinary people and those that choose extraordinary habits.
So what exactly is a Daily Success Formula?
Well, it can be whatever you want it to be.
It’s you. It’s unique to you. It’s what has you running like a Lamborghini rather than a rusty old tricycle. For all of us that means incorporating things into your day that work for you.
It’s trial and error, and sometimes it can be the edition or subtraction of something blindingly obvious. Oops, now this really is sounding like a mathematical equation. Don’t panic, it’s not that complicated.
If we Google the habits of successful people around the world you’ll get a list that looks a little like this:
- Successful People Believe in Themselves.
- They get up early
- They work on their Goals
- They read
- Exercise is a priority
- They sleep well
- They Take inspired Action
- They have good boundaries
- They are grateful
- They take time to think
There are many more, which I’ll cover off over the next few weeks.
The thing is, if you actually did everything they said you need to be successful everyday, you wouldn’t be left with much time for work related tasks, fun and the things that fill your cup, so I believe your Daily Success Formula has to also include those things. Build them into your day. Make them a priority.
This isn’t a perfect diary management system, I’ve tried them all, and as someone with ADHD, I haven’t really found one that suits me to a T, so I use a combination of things, to make all of this happen.
I want to help you find your groove. Find your formula. So we’re going for a tour through my day. Maybe you’ll find inspiration, hell, maybe you’ll think I’m a twit with somethings. Try what you like, and ditch the rest.
The magical part of finding your groove with your daily habits, is it will improve your confidence. It’s improved on by the thoughts you have and the actions you take.
Every time you honour a commitment to yourself. Anytime you see improvement in an area of your life. When you meet a goal or challenge you've set for yourself. And your formula will help you do all of that and so much more.
William James, a famous Harvard psychologist and philosopher who, in the 1800’s led some of the earliest investigations into habits, said that the daily lives of humans (and other living creatures) can be defined as “bundles of habits”. The majority of our daily actions are actually just habits. Whether you're making dinner, talking to your spouse or brushing your teeth, nearly half of these actions stem from a habit that we do blindly every day without thinking about it again and again.
Habit is often described differently by psychologists and neurologists. Dictionary.com states ' an acquired behaviour pattern regularly followed until it has become almost involuntary'. The most common definition of a habit is that it is an automatic behavioural response to environmental cues or triggers.
Your life is the culmination of your habits. Fitness, finances, career, happiness and yes, even your teeth are the sum of your habits. Some of your formula will become habits you don’t need to think about, other parts you will probably, like me, need that reminder on your phone.
